ROSA PARKS
(1913 - )






Rosa Parks is an African-American woman who changed the course of America's history. Do to her courage, she became known as Civil Rights Leader who was concerned about freedom and equality for all people.

One day, after a long tiring day of work, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus to a white man. During that time in America, African-Americans were not allowed to sit in the front of the bus. Also, if a white person wanted a black person's seat, they had to give it up without arguing. On this ocassion, Rosa Parks refused to to give up her seat.

Rosa Park's courageous act led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott and helped begin the Civil Rights Movement in Montgomery, Alabama.

Pretend that you are a newspaper reporter in Montgomery, Alabama in 1955. You have been asked to investigate the events that took place on that day. You have to interview both parties involved in the case: Rosa Parks and the white man.

Your task is to create the front page of your town's newspaper, feauturing your two interviews.

Your front page MUST include the following:

  1. Name of the newspaper.
  2. Date, volume, and page number.
  3. Your two articles - one from the point of view of Rosa Parks and one from the white man's point of view. When writing the news articles, include the five W's: Who, What, When, Where, and Why.
  4. Front page must include headlines and bylines.
